You are kindly invited to an Online Discussion “10 Year Road to Lobbying Regulation in Latvia – Quo Vadis?” with Ms Inese Voika, Deputy Secretary of Saeima. The event is organised in cooperation with British Chamber of Commerce in Latvia and Swiss Chamber of Commerce in Latvia.
The need for lobbying regulation in Latvia has been discussed since the beginning of this century and has been repeatedly encouraged by both local and international organisations However, due to various circumstances, efforts to date have been unsuccessful. Since 2004, there have been several attempts to adopt a law on lobbying in Latvia by the Government of Latvia and the Anti-Corruption Bureau (KNAB), but none of them has been successful.
The third attempt is marked by 2019, when the Saeima Defence, Interior and Anti-Corruption Commission established a working group for the development of the draft law on lobbying openness, which started their activities in 2020.
SPEAKER Inese Voika:
Work and political experience
Inese Voika has a 20-year experience as a policy expert and NGO activist specialising in anti-corruption and good governance and was elected to the Parliament of Latvia in October 2018 from a a social liberal fraction Attīstībai/Par (Development/Pro).
She also has done work with international organisations, such as NATO, Council of Europe, OECD and taught at several universities. Inese was the founding president of the Latvian chapter of Transparency International (TI) and served on the international board of TI. Her last engagement prior to joining politics was with the UNDP Ukraine on strategic issues of corruption prevention. Inese has a degree in Public Administration from Harvard University and Communication and Journalism degree from University of Latvia.
