Association ”Women in Transport”

ASSOCIATION “WOMEN IN TRANSPORT”

  • founded on August 18, 2020, and it unites women professionals of the transport industry from companies in their field, from state administration, higher education, and research.
  • currently represented areas of activity – passenger transportation by buses and railways, cargo transportation, aviation, maritime transport, higher education, and research in the transport sector. Vaira Gromule (chairperson of the board of JSC “Riga international coach terminal”) is the chairperson of the association’s board.
  • Members: 28 individuals and 4 legal entities.

Goals and core values of the Association “WOMEN IN TRANSPORT.”

  • promote women’s career choices in the transport sector and increase the share of women in the economy;
  • improve the representation of women in transport companies, promote diversity and diversity of opinions to increase the competitiveness of companies, and ensure better services;
  • break stereotypes about the transport industry as masculine, promote changes in the education system, diversification of women’s career opportunities, and increase women’s competitiveness in the labour market;
  • take care of a positive organizational culture, decent employment conditions, equality in pay, provision of proper working environment and equipment, fair and transparent recruitment procedures in industry organizations and companies;
  • promote the balance of private and work life, improvement of professional and management skills and knowledge, transfer of experience;
  • prevent discrimination against women in the transport sector and promote fair competition in the labour market;
  • cooperate with similar organizations in Latvia, EU member states, and other countries, including promoting a common standard of good management practices in transport companies in different countries and modes of transport;
  • to develop research and projects in the sector, to ensure the participation of women in research and the analysis of transport projects, and a view from the perspective of women – the needs of women as transport users;
  • participate in the formation of industry policies, promote women’s representation in decision-making processes at the international, national, and local levels.
  • The fundamental values of the association are responsibility towards Latvian society, participation, freedom of speech, diversity of opinions, rule of law, fair competition, equality, good governance, principles of sustainable development, and other fundamental values of a democratic society.

Association events: strategy conferences, annual forums, discussions, experience exchange trips, association meetings, and others.
