Compendia of Papers from Historian Commission Digitalised
Chancery of the President
During a meeting with organisers of the “Eustory” competition on March 21, Latvian President Andris Bērziņš noted the completion of a very important project that began in the autumn of 2012 – the Latvian Commission of Historians and the Latvian National Library have digitalised all 27 of the commission’s compendia of scholarly papers, making them available at no cost to all who are interested in them.
The Commission of Historians was established in 1998, and scholarly conferences and research have been the main focus of its activities. The compendia of papers represent a tangible result of these processes. Previously the research was available to a comparatively limited range of researchers and others at educational institutions, libraries and museums, as well as in, part, on the homepage of the Presidential Chancery. Now that the digitalisation has been completed, all 27 compendia are available without any copyright limitations on the homepage of the Latvian National Library.
This year the Latvian Association of History Teachers is running a research competition for schoolchildren under the title “Learning, Education and Schools in Latvia.” President Bērziņš said that he hopes that the release of the digitalised texts mean turning the page in learning about painful and disputed aspects of history.
The digitalised texts can be found here.
